Outdoor Active Play

Summer is the perfect season to get kids of all ages out to the backyard, park or beach for some fun in the sun.

Experts agree that setting the tempo for active play at an early age is key to engaging young children in a lifetime of physical activity that will be essential for happier and healthier lives.  Propelled by consumer demand and initiatives such as Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Campaign, toymakers have stepped up their efforts to develop toys and games that offer active solutions for the whole family.

In this video, the team from www.ToyInfo.org enjoys a morning of play with kids and parents in New York City’s Madison Square Park.  From bubbles to baseball and ride-ons to remote controls, you’ll see a few examples of the many great toys and games available for active outdoor play … as well as a few interviews with parents who describe their favorite outdoor family activities.

Often cited as favorites that span multiple generations and help to bring entire families together in play are beloved toys such as hula hoops, jump ropes, frisbees, marbles, yo-yos, the infamous little red wagon and other classics inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame.  We hope this video will inspire you to go out and create some of your own future “favorite memories” and that you’ll share those memories with us in the Discussion Board.
