TIA Welcomes Legislators at NCSL Annual Summit
The
Toy Industry Association (TIA) is continuing to enhance its outreach
efforts to state legislators with an exhibit at the National Conference
of State Legislatures Annual Summit currently underway in Louisville,
Kentucky. The conference, which opened July 25 and runs until July
28, is hosting more than 6,000 state legislators and their staffs
from each of the 50 states. It’s an important component of
TIA’s state-level advocacy program.
TIA’s key objectives for the event are to highlight the
importance of toys that promote active bodies and active minds, the
benefits of play, toy safety and a range of other issues of importance
to legislators.
“This week is proving to be a great way to showcase to key
state legislators and policy makers the value of safe and fun
play,” said Andy Hackman, TIA senior director of State Government
Affairs.
TIA staff is also on hand at the conference to explain how toymakers
have responded to the rigorous requirements of the federal Consumer
Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and to help dissuade officials
from moving forward with potentially duplicative or overlapping state
bills.
TIA plans to represent the toy industry once again at next
year’s Legislative Summit, to be held August 8-11, 2011 in San
Antonio, Texas.
