EVENT Description

California Toy Day is a series of meetings and group discussions that will connect toy company representatives with the state’s most influential legislators to discuss key industry issues.

Similar to TIA’s annual DC Fly-In, this event provides a critically important opportunity for toy companies of all sizes to meet face-to-face with California’s top policymakers and help them understand the direct impact their decisions have on toy companies, their employees and their customers.

California is regularly at the forefront of legislative and regulatory activity that impacts the toy industry:

  • California is responsible for roughly 22% of the nation’s total toy industry activity
  • More than 20% of TIA’s members are located in the state 
  • The California toy industry accounts for an estimated 88,314 jobs; $2.27 billion in business taxes; and a total economic impact of more than $14.13 billion. 

Whether you are a toy company based in California, or you simply have business interests in the state, please join us in Sacramento to share your story with members of the California legislature and other key decision-makers.

Registration

There is no fee to participate in California Toy Day, but advance registration is required.
 
Participation is limited to toy manufacturers, toy importers and toy distributors. All companies are invited to participate, regardless of TIA membership status.

Agenda

Activities will kick off on Wednesday, March 19th at noon with a luncheon, followed by an afternoon program of key policy updates and roundtable discussions with state officials. Sessions throughout the event are expected to examine the following key industry issues in California:

  • Green Chemistry – an update on California’s Safer Consumer Products Regulation;
  • Environmental Policy Discussions: Extended Producer Responsibility, Proposition 65, and Packaging Laws
  • Roundtable discussions with state legislators.

TIA will host a legislative reception for attendees and California’s leading lawmakers at 5:30 pm; the event will conclude with a post-reception networking dinner at 7:30 pm.

For those wishing to arrive early or stay overnight, a negotiated hotel room rate of $164 (plus applicable taxes and fees) is available at the Citizen Hotel in Sacramento.

Donate Toys for the Legislative Reception

TIA is soliciting toys and games for gift bags that will be distributed to key policymakers during the March 19th  legislative reception.

250 - 300 pieces of each toy are needed. The retail value of each product should be modest (general guideline: $10 or less) and the product should be relatively small in size.  Toys must comply with requirements of the CPSIA – including safety standard ASTM F963 – and be either suitable for all ages or appropriately age-graded.
