TIA California Toy Day is a series of meetings and small group discussions that brings toy company representatives together with the state’s most influential decision-makers to discuss our industry’s key issues and concerns.
Similar to TIA’s annual DC Fly-In, this event provides a critically important opportunity for small, mid-size and large toy companies to meet with California’s top legislators and help them understand:
- the vital economic role that our industry plays in both the state and the nation, and
- the impact their policy decisions have on real people and real companies in the world of toys and games.

TIA’s Third Annual California Toy Day Proves ‘Most Successful Yet’
May 21, 2013 | Representatives of toy companies gathered with key California lawmakers to discuss issues impacting the world of toys and games, as well as the public at large, during the Toy Industry Association’s (TIA) Third Annual California Toy Day, held in Sacramento on May 14-15.
California’s “Green Chemistry” legislation, which calls for the prioritizing and regulating of “chemicals of concern” in consumer products, and the state’s Rigid Plastic Packaging Container Program and Proposition 65 inspired the most active engagement among the industry reps, legislators, regulators and staff.
“This event brought industry professionals and government officials together for valuable in-person conversations, helping both parties to gain additional perspectives,” said Andy Hackman, TIA’s vice president of government affairs. “I would say this was the most successful California Toy Day yet.”
After a kickoff welcome dinner on Tuesday, May 14th with toy companies, lawmakers and staff from Governor Jerry Brown’s office, Wednesday began with welcome remarks from California Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, followed by a keynote address from Angela Perez, senior health scientist at ChemRisk LLC, on corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability.
The event concluded with a legislative reception, providing more than 250 legislators, staffers and toy company representatives with an opportunity for further face-to-face discussion on the day’s key topics.
“California Toy Day is an excellent platform to network, get informed and impact government legislation at the state and federal level,” said Roger McKinley III, sales manager at ImagAbility, a small toy company based in California. “TIA has made great in-roads into government to get our voices heard.”
Similar to TIA’s annual Washington, DC Fly-In, California Toy Day provides a critically important opportunity for small, mid-size and large toy companies to meet with the state’s top legislators to engage in conversations about the impact that policy decisions have on real people and real companies. California is regularly at the forefront of legislative and regulatory activity that impacts the toy industry. More than 26% of TIA’s members are located in the state; collectively, toy companies, retailers, wholesalers and distributors account for an estimated 91,173 jobs in California, business taxes in excess of $2.45 Billion and a total economic impact of $11.1 Billion.
