Save the Date: TIA Webinar on FTC ‘Green Guides’ and Their Impact on the Toy Industry
October 25, 2012 | The Toy Industry Association (TIA) invites toy industry stakeholders to participate in a webinar on Friday, November 16th entitled “Marketing Green Toys: A Review of the New FTC Green Guides and Their Impact on the Toy Industry.” The webinar will take place from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. (Eastern); it is open to all industry stakeholders and recommended for those who work on toy marketing and advertising initiatives.
Presented by experts from the law firm Keller and Heckman LLP, the webinar will review the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) recent revisions to the Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims (Green Guides) and discuss its implications for the toy industry.
Finalized on October 1, 2012, the much-anticipated revisions to the Green Guides reflect a wide range of public input based on hundreds of consumer and industry comments gathered over the last five years, as well as information discussed at several FTC workshops.
The webinar will cover revisions to the Guides affecting:
- General environmental benefit claims
- Certifications and seals
- Recyclable claims
- Recycled content claims
- Compostable claims
- Degradable claims
The webinar will also discuss the FTC’s new guidance on:
- “Free of” claims
- Non-Toxic claims
- Renewable Materials claims
- Renewable Energy claims
- Carbon Offset claims
In addition, the webinar will highlight claims that the FTC declined to address, including “sustainability” claims.
Questions from members and industry stakeholders may be submitted in advance; to the extent possible, answers to these questions will be discussed during the presentation.
The webinar will be free for TIA members and $49 for non-members. Advance registration can be completed online. As with other TIA webinars, the session will be recorded and available post-event for those who are unable to participate live.
