November 20, 2012 | The Toy Industry Association (TIA) and its members join in mourning the passing of William (Bill) Edmond Bacus, a veteran of the U.S. toy industry. He died on November 16 from cancer at the age of 65.
Born to Robert and Elizabeth (Reeves) Bacus on October 6, 1947 in Chicago, IL, he graduated from Southern Illinois and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon returning, Mr. Bacus began working in the retail industry, holding many different roles within the toy industry throughout a career that spanned 40+ years. He spent most of his time as a retail buyer; his knowledge of toys allowed him to mentor many people in the toy industry.
An avid Chicago fan that traveled the world with his family and enjoyed playing board and card games with friends, Mr. Bacus leaves behind his wife Jo Ann Zimmerman, his children Kirk (Betsy), Kimberly (Micah) and Keith, as well as six grandchildren, his father, siblings and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Toys for Tots can be made in Mr. Bacus’s memory at any Toys“R”Us or other designated location.
