Call for Speakers: ToyDesignCon 2013
January 22, 2013 | The Toy Industry Association (TIA) has announced that it is now accepting speaker and topic proposals for ToyDesignCon 2013: Informing and Inspiring Toy and Game Designers. The second annual conference for the toy designer community will be held June 23-25, 2013 in Rochester, NY at The Strong – home of the National Museum of Play.
Already confirmed for the 2013 event is a networking dinner on the evening of Sunday, June 23, followed by an enriching day-and-a-half conference including tours of The Strong’s vast resources – the museum, library / archives of play, and world-renowned toy collections – a keynote address on creativity, and panel presentations on “designing for transmedia” and “creativity in the game aisle.”
The following are the details regarding speaker and topic proposals:
- Speaker proposals: Potential speakers with a unique story to tell are invited to submit proposals to present on the confirmed topics of “Transmedia Design” and “Creativity in Games.” Applications should include a short speaker bio, an explanation of why the proposed candidate is qualified to speak to TIA’s toy design community on the given topic, and a sample of the “hits” or “misses” that might be discussed.
- Topic proposals: TIA is also inviting proposals for presentation topics. Sessions should provoke thoughtful discussion, reveal new research and data and / or serve as inspiration for the toy industry’s creative community. Submissions should include a proposed session title, session description, and a short speaker bio, with an explanation as to why the proposed candidate is qualified to speak to TIA’s toy design community on the given topic.
“The ToyDesignCon program committee is hoping to broaden the scope of input that we incorporate into the conference by issuing this call for speakers and content,” said Stacy Leistner, TIA vice president of strategic communications. “Our goal is to build on the success of last year’s event by providing the in-house designers working at TIA member companies with up-to-date information that will inspire creativity.”
Proposals may be submitted via email to TIA’s Jackie Retzer. Details about the keynote address will be made available in the coming weeks. For more information about ToyDesignCon ’13, and to learn about last year’s inaugural event, please visit ToyAssociation.org/ToyDesignCon.
