Digital Kids Safety Summit to Take Place at Toy Fair ’13
January 18, 2013 | Engage Digital has announced that its Digital Kids Safety Summit will be held on Monday, February 11th at the 110th American International Toy Fair in New York City.
Taking place on-site at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, the Safety Summit will precede Engage Digital’s 7th annual Digital Kids Conference (February 12-13). Both events will be among several enriching educational opportunities available to Toy Fair’s estimated 30,000 attendees. [Register for the Safety Summit / Register for Digital Kids Conference].
Jointly produced with the kidSAFE® Seal Program, the Safety Summit will provide participants with a detailed understanding of safety and privacy issues for operators of kid-directed virtual worlds, social networks, online games, mobile apps and tablet services.
Sheila A. Millar, Partner at Keller and Heckman and counsel for the Toy Industry Association (TIA), will speak on a panel entitled “COPPA2.0 Unraveled” alongside Phyllis Marcus from the Federal Trade Commission and Shai Samet, founder and president of the kidSAFE® Seal Program. The panel will explore final changes to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA) that will go into effect on July 1, 2013.
Other panels throughout the Safety Summit will discuss mobile privacy lawsuits, “reasonable measures” for safe online communities, safe tablet design for kids, and safety and privacy tips for “mommy” bloggers.
Following the Summit, the two-day Digital Kids Conference will bring youth-focused digital media executives, brand owners, and licensors together to learn critical information about engaging children online and through digital devices, the business side of digital games, marketing strategies, and innovation in the toy industry. The full roster of topics and speakers can be found online.
Toy Fair 2013 will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from Sunday, February 10 to Wednesday, February 13; the Safety Summit will overlap with Toy Fair on February 11, while the Digital Kids Conference will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 12-13. Toy Fair attendees will receive complimentary access to the Safety Summit; all TIA members will receive reduced rates to attend the Digital Kids Conference. Digital Kids registrants will receive access to the Safety Summit and to the Toy Fair show floor.
Previously called Engage! Expo, the Digital Kids® Conference co-located with Toy Fair in 2010 and 2011.
