Free TIE Webinar on Chemical Safety Assessment of Toys under Revised TSD

May 13, 2013 | Toy Industries of Europe (TIA) has announced that it will host a free webinar to provide toy manufacturers, importers and retailers of toys intended for sale in Europe with the information they need to perform chemical safety assessments on their products under the revised EU Toy Safety Directive (TSD). The session will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 10 to 11 a.m. Eastern.

The TSD, which went into effect in July 2011, requires companies to evaluate and assess the potential chemical hazards of a toy prior to it being placed on the market. During this webinar, Christian Wetterberg, director of external relations and corporate affairs at Lego, will provide companies with information on how to conduct chemical safety assessments of their toys in light of new chemical requirements under the TSD which go into effect on July 20, 2013.

Advance registration for this webinar is encouraged; following completion of the sign-up form, participants will receive an email with webinar log-in instructions. For additional information or for assistance with log-in, contact TIE’s François Aubrée.

The revised Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC contains amendments across virtually all safety aspects related to toys, reflecting the latest health and safety standards. All U.S. toy companies that import products to Europe are advised to ensure that they are in compliance with the new European regulations well in advance of the July 2013 effective date. More information about the revised Directive, including an explanatory guidance document, can be found online.
