Jay Roth, Toy Industry Veteran, Dies at 75

September 1, 2013 | The Toy Industry Association (TIA) and its members join in mourning the passing of Jay Roth, a veteran in the toy industry, who died on August 22 at the age of 75 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

According to his obituary, Mr. Roth was born in Gary, Indiana in 1938, and enlisted in the U.S. Army after high school. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1960 and went on to become a successful sales and marketing executive in the toy industry through the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. He started his own toy company – JRL – in 1986, and was considered a pioneer of the early merchandising and licensing industry in the mid- to late 1980s. He was a mentor and source of inspiration for many colleagues.

Mr. Roth is survived by his wife, Donna; his children and step-children; his many grandkids; and several other beloved family members.
