PlayCon to Feature Speakers from Disney, Hasbro, Pretty Ugly and More

April 15, 2013 | The Toy Industry Association (TIA) has announced that leading industry executives from Disney Consumer Products, Hasbro, and Pretty Ugly, LLC will present their insights on licensing, global expansion and brand-building at PlayCon, TIA’s International Conference of Play Professionals.

Scheduled to take place from May 6-8, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona, the annual industry educational and networking event will bring together play professionals for three days of topical and cutting edge presentations delivered by toy industry luminaries, including:

  • Bob Chapek, President of Disney Consumer Products, who will share his vision for driving company growth. Mr. Chapek will also discuss the recent acquisition of Lucasfilm and the integration of Star Wars into a portfolio of popular franchises that includes Disney Princess, Toy Story and The Avengers.

  • Katy Giffault, Vice President of Global Consumer Insights at Hasbro, who will discuss Hasbro’s success in China, revealing the demographic and socio-economic data utilized by the company to determine its strategic entry into the emerging foreign market.

  • David Horvath, Co-founder of Pretty Ugly, LLC, who will outline Pretty Ugly’s growth from a pop culture specialty line of plush toys into a powerful, international brand generating more than $100 million in retail sales.

Other topics to be covered throughout the conference include: industry updates from The NPD Group; a keynote address from Walmart’s Scott McCall, Senior Vice President of Toys, Seasonal and Celebrations; social, mobile and digital trends; research findings from TIA, including the results of a Financial and Operating Benchmark Study and the results of a proprietary study on Toy and Game Decision Making in the U.S. conducted by The Family Room;  retail perspectives and consumer insights; and more. The event will also include several social activities and networking meals, giving conference-goers the opportunity to mingle with old friends and meet important new contacts.
