Reminder: TIF Volunteer & Networking Event

March 23, 2013 | The Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) is reminding toy industry stakeholders that there are just a few days left to register for TIF’s Play Your Part volunteer and networking event taking place on Friday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Commerce, CA.

Kicking off the Foundation’s national partnership with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children, the event will allow volunteers to work-side-by-side with their peers to sort and bundle new toys and write personal notes of encouragement for nearly 6,000 foster children who are waiting to be placed in permanent homes. There is no cost to register, and free lunch will be served to all participants.

“This Play Your Part event is the perfect opportunity for the toy industry to join together and meet new contacts while making a difference in the lives of children in need!” said Foundation Manager Marisa Medina. “It is really heartwarming when the industry teams up to put toys in the hands – and warmth in the hearts – of thousands of disadvantaged kids.”

In addition to providing new toys for foster children, TIF has granted $200,000 to CASA to expand their specially trained volunteer base of individuals who provide one-on-one advocacy for children in the foster care and family court systems. These advocates fight for and protect a child’s right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to grow in the safe embrace of a loving family. The toys provided by TIF enhance this partnership by helping children served by CASA bond with their mentors through play.

Event details can be accessed online; registration may also be completed online or via email by Thursday, March 28th. Questions may be directed to TIF’s Marisa Medina (646.454.5581).
