Rise in International Buyers Expected at Fall Toy Preview ’13

August 13, 2013 | Worldwide toy sellers eager to be among the first to know which toys, games and youth entertainment products will be hot for next year will be in Dallas, Texas from October 1-3, 2013 for the Toy Industry Association’s (TIA) annual Fall Toy Preview.

To date, more than 500 buyers from powerhouse retail outlets – including 124 foreign buyers from 24 countries – have pre-registered for the show, where they will preview innovative playthings more than 12 months in advance of in-store delivery for Holiday 2014.

“The number of international buyers in attendance at Fall Toy Preview has been on the rise for the past several years, transforming the event into a truly global experience as visitors from Canada, Australia, Panama, Spain, Hong Kong, the UK and many more countries flock to the show,” said Marian Bossard, TIA vice president of meetings and events. “Worldwide retailers are well-aware that being ‘in the know’ about the latest innovations in toys is paramount to coming out ahead in the competitive toy retail environment.”

Recent international registrants include Big W (Australia), Indigo Books and Music (Canada), Jumbo-Diset Group (Netherlands), Malaysia Airports (Malaysia), and Woolworths (Australia), as well as 13 of the Top 25 U.S. Toy Sellers identified by The NPD Group: AC Moore, Amazon.com, Family Dollar, Hobby Lobby, JC Penney, Kmart/Sears Holdings Corp., Kohl’s, Meier, Michael’s, Target, Toys“R”Us, ToysRUs.com, and Walmart.

Additionally, Fall Toy Preview will welcome members of the Hot 100 Retailers – ranked for being the nation’s fastest-growing retail chains – including 7-Eleven, 99 Cents Only Stores, Apple Stores, Costco, TJX and Bed, Bath & Beyond.

TIA’s communications team will also be on-site at Fall Toy Preview to scout new product lines and establish the hottest trends in advance of Toy Fair 2014.  Exhibiting companies that would like to maximize product exposure are encouraged to book preview appointments with TIA trend spotters, who will keep all of the gathered information under embargo as they prepare for media opportunities at Toy Fair.

Additionally, although Fall Toy Preview is not billed as a media event and TIA does not actively promote the show to the press, TIA’s communications team will assist with media requests related to products that will be on the market for Holiday 2014. Companies willing to discuss and show product on-camera new for fourth quarter next year are invited to share with TIA an on-site point of contact so that they may be connected with local media.
