Simplify Holiday Giving: Send Toy Donation Requests to The Toy Bank

November 1, 2013 | The Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) is encouraging toy companies to consider utilizing its signature giving program, The Toy Bank, as an additional resource for handling donation requests this holiday season and all year long.

Companies with an interest in streamlining the management of their corporate philanthropy activities while also extending the number of children they can reach – both within their communities and on a national scale – are invited to refer donation inquiries to The Toy Bank.

“The holidays are a very busy time for our industry, which is why we want to remind companies that the Toy Industry Foundation is here to help,” said Jean Butler, TIF executive director. “Many toy companies are active supporters of local charities, but often the holiday period also comes with a very high volume of requests from across the country.   The Toy Bank is available to help in managing those donation requests and placing toys where they are needed most.  This is a win-win-win for toy companies, charities and children in need!”

Toy companies will be able to reclaim staff hours previously spent considering the requests received each year; qualifying charities can become eligible for Toy Bank toys donated by a broad network of more than 400 companies … even beyond the holiday season.

Charity requests are carefully vetted through The Toy Bank's partnership with Kids in Distressed Situations. A strong focus is placed on the recipient charity’s fiscal responsibility and status as an active 501(c)(3); The Toy Bank team also ensures that the applicant’s vision and mission align with the toy industry’s interest in providing playthings to support joy, comfort and learning to children in need. Once charities are approved to join The Toy Bank’s network, they are permanently eligible to receive donated toys every year, pending follow up site-visits and confirmation of 501(c)(3) status, as needed.

“We have a great relationship with The Toy Bank and are happy to support them whenever possible,” said Amanda Santoro from LEGO Systems, Inc. “Their team makes the donation process seamless and through our work with The Toy Bank, we are able to ensure that deserving children across the country are able to enjoy the benefits of LEGO play.”

Toy companies that would like additional information about The Toy Bank, including sample response language that can be used when replying to donation inquiries, should contact TIF’s Melissa Sorvillo.

Companies that are interested in donating product and helping The Toy Bank build its inventory so that it can fulfill an increasing number of requests from children’s charities nationwide are encouraged to submit a product donation form to
