TIA to Honor ICPHSO Milestone at Annual Meeting & Training Symposium

January 22, 2013 | As one of the founding members of the International  Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO), the Toy Industry Association (TIA) has announced that it will honor ICPHSO’s 20th anniversary by becoming a platinum sponsor for the ICPHSO 2013 Annual Meeting and Training Symposium.

Taking place February 26 to March 1, 2013 in Arlington, VA, the event will feature updates in the field of consumer product safety. TIA staff will be present at the meeting and will host a booth to communicate the importance of safe and fun play to a global audience of regulators, retailers, manufacturers, consumers, standards and testing organizations and more. Nearly 700 attendees are expected.

Additionally, TIA EVP of external affairs Ed Desmond will provide welcome remarks in advance of a keynote address delivered by Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Chairman Inez Tenenbaum on Thursday, February 28.

Topics to be covered throughout the four-day symposium include: reporting requirements and recalls, port surveillance, tools for understanding and anticipating product failures, “green” chemistry and chemicals of concern, and more.  The CPSC will also host a full-day workshop, covering evolving Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) requirements as well as existing regulations.

“TIA is pleased to once again participate in this annual conference and to celebrate ICPHSO’s 20th anniversary,” said Joan Lawrence, TIA vice president of standards and government affairs, and a member of ICPHSO’s Board of Directors. “The toy industry shares in ICPHSO’s commitment to enhancing the safety of products manufactured and sold in the global marketplace.”

Created in 1993, ICPHSO is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing forums for the exchange of ideas and information on health and safety issues related to consumer products manufactured and marketed in the global marketplace. TIA was a founding member of the organization; along with Lawrence, TIA SVP of technical affairs Al Kaufman sits on the Board of Directors.
