TIA to Offer Two Travel Stipends for First-Time Attendees of California Toy Day

April 16, 2013 | To promote the participation of additional companies in the Third Annual California Toy Day, to be held May 14-15, 2013, in Sacramento, California, the Toy Industry Association (TIA) has announced that it will offer two travel stipends for qualifying first-time attendees.

“California Toy Day brings toy companies together with leading California legislators to discuss critical economic and policy issues affecting the toy industry,” explained Andy Hackman, TIA vice president of government affairs.  “We need toy companies to be well represented at the event and have their voices heard. The travel stipends were suggested following last year’s ‘Toy Day’ as a way to encourage even more new companies to participate.”

Currently slated for the program are key industry issues such as:

  • CA Green Chemistry Session (with an invited representative from the CA Department of Toxic Substances Control);
  • Environmental Policy – Legislative Perspective on Extended Producer Responsibility, Proposition 65 and Packaging Laws (presented by invited state legislators);
  • CA Economic Development Efforts and Business Assistance Services Session (with an invited representative from CA GoBiz);
  • CA Online Privacy, Prop. 65, and Disclosure and Supply Chain Issues (with an invited representative from the CA Attorney General’s Office); and
  • Corporate Social Responsibility (speaker TBA).

A reception on Wednesday evening will provide another opportunity for toy companies, legislative staff and the legislators themselves to interact and learn more about the industry and its products.

All toy manufacturers, importers and distributors, regardless of whether or not they are TIA members, are encouraged to register.  Participation – including the opening dinner and all sessions and meals/breaks/reception on May 15th — is free.

Hotel rooms may be booked at Sacramento’s Citizen Hotel for a negotiated rate of $159 per night. Contact the hotel directly (916.447.2700) and reference “Toy Industry Association” or make a reservation online by April 22nd to receive the group rate.

As referenced above, qualifying companies may also apply for a stipend to assist with travel-related expenses.  A total of $1,000 is available and may be used for airfare, ground transportation or mileage, and/or hotel accommodations; the maximum reimbursement to each qualifying company shall not exceed $500.

To qualify, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

TIA's decision to grant travel stipends shall be made in its sole discretion and is final. Additionally, TIA will only reimburse costs that are properly substantiated with receipts, and the reimbursement will be made to the company, not to the individual.

Additional information, including details about toy donations for the May 15th reception, is available on the California Toy Day website. To apply for a stipend, please contact TIA’s Jennifer Gibbons (646.512.1320).
