World Congress of Play Just Two Weeks Away
TIA President to Deliver Talk on Expanding World of Toys
August 26, 2013 | Leaders of play-related industries — from mobile games to education to theme parks and more — will come together in San Francisco, CA on September 9-11, 2013 for the World Congress of Play to discuss the current state and future of the business of play.
On the agenda are 45 speakers that will cover areas of interest to play executives wishing to look beyond the normal sphere of product and service development for ideas that will spark innovation. Carter Keithley, president of the Toy Industry Assocaition (TIA), is slated to deliver a talk entitled The Expanding World of Toys: A Toy Industry Perspective. Other topics to be addressed include new technologies and products, the blending of digital and physical play, educational play, the evolution of play in America, and more.
Scheduled panel discussions include:
- Digital Play Innovators: Lessons from the Start-up companies who are breaking through barriers with Interactive Play (Led by Reyne Rice of Toy Trends, with Ian Bernstein of Orbotix | Sphero, David Merill of Sifteo, and Oren Jacob of Toytalk).
- Digital Games and Physical Games: A Conversation (led by Mary Couzin of Chicago Toy and Game Group, with Eric Hardman of Otherdoor Entertainment, and Dan Judkins of Hasbro).
- Play As Work: Work As Play (led by Donna Friedman Meir of Lemonade, with Brendan Boyle of Ideo, Matt Brown of Big Boing, Steward Bonn of If You Can, and Glen Tripp of Galileo).
- Play in a Transmedia Universe (led by Susanna Pollack and Traci Paige Johnson of Yummico, with Dr. Becky Herr Stephenson of The Joan Ganz Cooney Center, and Manuel Torres of Nickelodeon).
