Year-to-Date Registration Holds Strong for 110th American International Toy Fair
January 21, 2013 | More than 15,000 play professionals from 92 countries have already registered to attend the Toy Industry Association’s (TIA) 110th American International Toy Fair, scheduled to open in just under three weeks at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center New York City.
Twenty-three (23) of the Top 25 Toy Sellers in the U.S. have already signed on to attend – including larger-than-ever buyer delegations from Toys‘R’Us, Target, Walmart and Amazon – affirming Toy Fair’s role as an integral stop on the first quarter global toy show circuit. “We saw a big leap in buyers from several powerhouse retailers at Fall Toy Preview in Dallas last October, and this momentum is being carried forward to our February show,” said Marian Bossard TIA vice president of meetings and events.
Year-to-date registration for international buyers is up 3%; as of press time, nearly 11,500 buyers from approximately 6,400 retail outlets have signed on to preview toys and youth entertainment products on display by nearly 1,100 exhibiting companies at the February 10-13, 2013 show. The top five countries in registration numbers to date are Canada, the UK, Mexico, Japan and Australia; so far, exhibitors from 148 countries are expected to attend.
More than 150,000 innovative playthings will be showcased across a record-breaking 374,000 net square feet of exhibit space. Products will span 13 specific “zones” – including action figures, board games, children’s books and music, science and discovery kits, outdoor toys, and more – providing a focused and efficient shopping experience for buyers, brand owners and industry professionals.
Licensor attendance is also on the rise – registration for this group is up 19% year-to-date – with representatives from big-name entertainment companies such as 20th Century Fox, Cartoon Network, Disney, Dreamworks, ESPN, MGM, Nickelodeon, Sesame Workshop and Warner Bros slated to attend. To better serve the needs of the show’s growing licensing community, Toy Fair has expanded on-site educational resources targeted to this group – TIA’s Content Connection will take place on Sunday, February 10 and Monday, February 11.
“The excitement that Toy Fair generates among members of the global toy community is palpable,” said Bossard. “In addition to embarking on business ventures and tapping into the rich educational and networking opportunities offered at the show, buyers, licensors, entertainment executives and other attendees have said that they HAVE to be in New York City during Toy Fair week to see what’s new and hot in toys.”
As of press time, 700 members of the international media have registered from renowned outlets such as CNBC, CNN, E! Online, Family Fun, Associated Press, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, MTV, New York Post and BBC. More than 1,000 total press are projected to visit Toy Fair 2013 to report on the year’s top toy trends and to predict which toys and games will be on everyone’s radar come fourth quarter holiday shopping season.
The 110th American International Toy Fair will take place from Sunday, February 10th to Wednesday, February 13th at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Buyers or trade guests who would like additional information about Toy Fair are asked to contact Joan Wyche, TIA director of buyer relations. For complete show information, visit ToyFairNY.com.
