CARU West Coast Conference Set to Examine Digital Marketing to Children
March 18, 2014 | The Children’s Advertising and Review Unit (CARU) will hold its fourth annual West Coast Conference on May 7, 2014 in Beverly Hills, California. This year’s event, entitled “Marketing to Children in a Digital Landscape,” will offer a review of the legal and logistical impacts of the new Children’s Privacy Regulations on web advertising, social media, mobile apps and more.
The day-long conference will feature panel discussions examining a range of child-direct advertising issues of interest to the toy industry. Topics include the aftereffect of changes to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act that went into effect July 2013; the effectiveness and challenges of online advertising; how to ensure that websites and apps are legally compliant; and more.
Participants will also receive practical insights into understanding self-regulatory guidelines for children’s advertising, as well as specific examples of how to effectively work with CARU throughout its decision making process. View the full agenda.
Event registration is open. The West Coast Conference will take place at the Beverly Hilton hotel; discounted hotel rooms are available and can be reserved by calling the Hilton hotel (1-800-445-8667).
CARU is the children’s arm of the advertising industry’s voluntary self-regulation program, which monitors child-directed advertising claims made across media platforms to ensure and promote truthfulness, accuracy and consistency with its Self-Regulatory Program for Children’s Advertising and relevant laws. As a supporter of CARU, the Toy Industry Association (TIA) will be present at the West Coast Conference.
