Licensing Content Connection Programming Announced for Toy Fair 2014

January 20, 2014 | The Toy Industry Association (TIA) has announced that its Licensing Content Connection program at Toy Fair has been strengthened to support the ever-growing number of licensors, brand owners and entertainment executives that annually flock to the show.

“Thanks to TIA’s newly established alliance with Advanstar, producers of Licensing Expo, and the Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA), our Licensing Content Connection at Toy Fair will be more informative than ever before, providing toy companies and brand owners alike with the opportunity to network, build business relationships, and learn from revered experts in the field,” said Marian Bossard, TIA vice president of meetings and events.

The following seminars have been confirmed for Sunday, February 16th and Tuesday, February 18th at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and will be held in association with Advanstar and EPM Communications, publisher of The Licensing Letter and Youth Markets Alert:

  • Licensing 101: The Basics of Licensing Explained
    Sunday, February 16
    1:30 to 2:30pm
Jessica Blue, vice president of Licensing Expo, and Steven Ekstract, founder and group publisher of License! Global Magazine, will provide session attendees with an overview of licensing fundamentals and best business models. Case studies will be shared, illustrating how certain licensing programs have performed in the toys and games market.

  • Workshop: Build A Licensing Program
    Sunday, February 16
    3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
This workshop provides participants (limited to 25) with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience as they work in small teams to craft a hypothetical licensing program that will be evaluated by peers and a panel of licensing experts. The Licensing Letter, the leading subscriber-supported trade publication for retail sales data and licensing trends and news, will sponsor the session.
  • Panel: Multi-Territory Licensing — What You Need to Know
    Tuesday, February 18
    11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
The global nature of toy, brand and entertainment businesses means that fewer licensing deals are limited to a single country or region, impacting the marketing, logistical, legal and retail aspects of the program. This panel will provide attendees with a broader understanding of how to successfully navigate the complex waters of international licensing. LIMA’s Marty Brochstein, senior vice president of industry relations and information, will moderate the session.

  • Walking the Aisles: Licensing Toys at Retail
    Tuesday, February 18
    2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
EPM Communications’ Ira Mayer and Project Partners Network’s Leigh Ann Schwarzkopf and Lynn Scott will present this session, which will explore tips and strategies for licensing promotions in the retail space.
Registration is required for all Licensing Content Connection sessions: those interested may sign up when registering for Toy Fair, or update their show itineraries here.  A “passport” rate that includes admission to all four sessions is available at $99 for TIA members and $129 for non-members.
