July 29, 2014 | The Toy Industry Association (TIA) is hosting a webinar on Thursday, August 21, 2014 that will provide key research findings on U.S. consumer behavior and holiday toy shopping trends in order to assist toy companies in their efforts to increase domestic sales activity.
Insights into the U.S. Toy Market: What Companies Should Know About American Consumers will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. (Eastern); registration for members and non-members is now open.

American children dedicate nearly 19 hours each week to playtime, and prefer to play with games and puzzles, arts & crafts, and digital games while at home. When asked who they play with, 42% of respondents said their siblings.
Children’s play preferences have a significant impact on the holiday presents they receive: during the Christmas season last year, 58% of gifts received were toys and 56% were kid-requested. Consumers start their holiday shopping well in advance — the study shows that 63% had begun purchasing Christmas presents at least a month ahead of time.
During the webinar, Philippe Guinaudeau, CEO of market research firm Kidz Global, will examine top-level research findings from TIA-commissioned consumer surveys to help toy companies understand how best to position their product lines. Guinaudeau will explore children’s weekly routines, including where, when, how and with whom children play, segmented by gender and age. He will also review data on consumer holiday shopping habits, looking specifically at gift-giving trends and paths to purchase during Christmas 2013.
“The information presented in this webinar will help all toy companies, including manufacturers and retailers, identify products and promotional strategies that most effectively target American consumer audiences, especially around the holiday season,” said webinar moderator Anne McConnell, TIA’s director of market research and data strategy.
Detailed data on children’s routine activities — including playtime, eating, TV watching, computer usage, reading, music consumption and more, broken out by age and gender — is included in the full reports, as well as insights into what, when and where U.S. holiday shoppers purchase. The members-only reports will be freely available on the Association’s website; TIA will alert members when they become available to download.
