TIA Annual Toy Safety Compliance Update to Take Place at Toy Fair
Robert Adler, CPSC Acting Chairman and Commissioner, to Deliver Keynote Address

The Toy Industry Association (TIA) announced today that it will host its annual Toy Safety Compliance Update on the morning of Tuesday, February 18th at the 111th American International Toy Fair
The safety seminar will be free-of-charge and open to all Toy Fair attendees, including manufacturers and retailers, toy inventors and designers, and testing labs. The two-and-a-half hour presentation will cover the latest news and developments related to toy safety laws in the U.S. and abroad, as well as recent regulatory activities, trends and emerging issues.
The session will open at 9:30 a.m. with a keynote address from Robert Adler, acting chairman and commissioner of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Mr. Adler’s presentation will include an overview of recent CPSC activities and updates, as well as the agency’s goals and objectives for 2014. Following the keynote, new Commissioners Marietta Robinson and Ann Marie Buerkle will be introduced. Ms. Buerkle is expected to be present at the seminar for her introduction; Ms. Robinson will not be in attendance due to scheduling conflicts.
The remainder of the session will cover:
- Compliance update from the CPSC Office of Compliance and Enforcement (invited);
- News and information on U.S. port activities, presented by Edward Ryan, supervisory international trade specialist at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Jack McDaniel, CPSC international trade specialist; and
- A technical update from TIA’s Alan Kaufman on upcoming changes to the mandatory U.S. Toy Safety Standard ASTM F963 and recent changes to the EU Toy Safety Directive.

The seminar will take place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Room 1E19. It will follow TIA’s Annual Business Meeting (8 to 9 a.m.), which will cover key TIA accomplishments and activities, the election of new board members, and a summary financial report.
