TIA Annual External Affairs Strategy Meeting to Discuss Priority Issues for 2017

September 15, 2016 | Members of the Toy Industry Association (TIA) are invited to attend TIA’s upcoming Annual External Affairs Strategy Meeting, scheduled to take place on December 13-14, 2016 in Washington, DC. The meeting will bring together TIA members and Association staff to discuss critical legislative and regulatory priorities for 2017, to outline communications and messaging plans related to these priorities, and to strategize on short- and long-term industry issues.

Beginning on the afternoon of December 13th and concluding on the afternoon of December 14th, the meeting will center on TIA’s top priority policy areas: chemical regulation, product safety, environmental sustainability, marketing to children and international trade. Parts of the discussion will focus on other important industry issues, ranging from intellectual property protection, emerging technologies, and ports and shipping issues. The outcomes of the 2016 presidential, congressional and state elections are expected to shape many of the discussions and strategies related to these areas.

Special topics of interest will also be addressed, including updates on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) implementation of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA); various industry issues handled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC); and marketing and advertising topics that may arise at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), among others. The meeting will include an informal networking dinner to provide TIA members with the opportunity to meet and reconnect with industry colleagues.

“TIA’s Annual Strategy Meeting provides our members with a unique opportunity to give TIA staff input and strategic direction on current and emerging issues that are expected to impact their businesses,” said Ed Desmond, TIA executive vice president of external affairs. “With major elections occurring in November, we look forward to meeting with our members soon afterwards to strategize on top priority areas and lay down a strong foundation for the year ahead.”

TIA members are encouraged to attend and are invited to contact TIA’s Molly Carroll to register for the meeting and to obtain additional information. A block of hotel rooms will be reserved for meeting participants; details will be available soon.
