The Genius of Play Summertime Campaign Encourages ‘Social’ Activity

Did You Know?

On July 13th, Genius of Play representatives hosted a game and activity booth at The Toy Insider’s annual Sweet Suite. At the networking event, bloggers and attendees participated in the “Wheel of Play!” to answer trivia questions about play and win prizes. The Genius of Play’s next stop will be at #BlogHer16, taking place August 4-6 in Los Angeles, where Genius of Play representatives will once again spread awareness about the value and benefits of play.

July 19, 2016 | This summer, the Genius of Play, the toy industry’s research-backed initiative to bring more play into kids’ lives, will be inspiring children to engage in social play to strengthen their friendships and forge new ones.

Through August 20th, the Genius of Play’s summertime campaign will spread awareness about the key benefits of social play and its role in children’s interpersonal development. A new animated video vignette highlighting how play can help kids learn and practice appropriate social behaviors is now live on Facebook; families and companies are encouraged to share the animation with play lovers of all ages.

In the next week, www.TheGeniusofPlay.org will also add new expert advice columns and social play ideas which families can incorporate into their summer play routines.

“Play is a natural way for children to develop and practice interpersonal skills, which are critical to success in virtually every area of life,” said Anna Yudina, director of marketing communications at the Toy Industry Association (TIA). “According to one study, the best predictor of academic performance in eighth grade was a child's social skills in third grade. Summer is the perfect time to meet new friends and strengthen existing friendships through social play!”

The Genius of Play’s “Splashquerade Ball” sweepstakes will launch July 21st on Facebook and will offer families a chance to win passes to their favorite water park and a “playcation gift pack” filled with $250 in outdoor toys. To enter, parents simply need to share three to five words about their family’s favorite way to play together.
