DEADLINE EXTENDED: Participate in the 2017 Toy Industry Financial & Operating Benchmark Study

April 24, 2017 | The Toy Association has extended the deadline to May 19 for manufacturer members to complete the 2017 Toy Industry Financial & Operating Benchmark Study. The data collected through the confidential survey will enable member companies to see how their financial metrics compare to other companies of similar size, category, and distribution channel.

“We know that our members are busy creating product and securing business. Companies can now take an extra few weeks to complete this valuable and confidential survey,” says Anne McConnell, The Toy Association’s senior director of market research & data strategy. “We encourage members to join those who have already participated and gain access to the many benefits the survey provides including personalized company information as well as trend data that will be useful as they grow their businesses.”

For example, participants will be able to see how their spending on materials, advertising, and other expenses compare with others in their category, or whether their gross margin is better (or worse) than others of the same size.

Participation in the survey is free for Toy Association member companies that are engaged in the manufacture, importing, and distribution of toys.

Some of the benefits in participating in the study include:

  • Access to industry totals and trends as well as aggregated data;
  • A ‘Company Performance Report’ displaying a company’s own financial ratios and operating statistics alongside industry totals and appropriate cross sections;
  • An individualized company ‘Report Card’ that grades a company on key operating ratios;
  • Access to an online searchable results tool to easily see your company’s data alongside selected aggregates and the ability to create customizable reports.

Companies that participated in the 2013 and 2015 studies will receive six years’ worth of performance trend data as compared to industry averages. See the full list of benefits.

“The time and effort to complete the financial benchmarking study is definitely worthwhile,” says John Gessert, president of American Plastic Toys, Inc. “In addition to the insights and benefits of the information, we appreciate the confidentiality of our financial data. Both TIA and Industry Insights made us feel comfortable enough that every piece of information we provided would not be seen by others, especially our competitors.” Gessert is on The Toy Association’s Advisory Board and a past Chairman of the Board.

The questionnaire can be completed securely online or via hard copy. View a pdf of the questionnaire. All responses will be returned directly to Industry Insights, where they will be kept in strict confidence. Review the confidentiality assurance.
