CPSC Seeks Input on Budget and Resource Priorities for 2018 & 2019

The Toy Association Urges Commission to Focus on Finalizing Phthalates Rule, Creating “Trusted Trader” Program for Small Importers, & More

July 18, 2017 | The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) will hold its annual public budget priorities hearing on July 26 to receive stakeholder input on the Commission’s budget and resource priorities for fiscal years 2018 and 2019.

Through the submission of comments, The Toy Association has asked the CPSC to focus resources on: finalizing rules to exempt certain plastics from phthalates testing; creating a “trusted trader” program for small importers; increasing industry partnerships to educate consumers on toy safety; and seeking input from the regulated community prior to drafting regulations.

Toy Association staff will also be present at the meeting to submit oral testimony alongside other members of the regulated community.

“We look forward to continuing our collaborative partnership with the CPSC and maintaining the effective dialogue we’ve long had with the agency, as we work together to accomplish our shared objectives of keeping consumers safe,” stated Ed Desmond, executive vice president of external affairs at The Toy Association.

The agency’s fiscal year 2018 begins on October 1, 2017. Fiscal year 2019 begins on October 1, 2018.

The Toy Association will keep members apprised of any developments; questions related to this matter may be directed to Autumn Moore
