Aggressively Fighting Threat of Tariffs on Toys

March 27, 2018 | Toy Association staff and member company representatives on the Federal Government Affairs Committee (FGAC) remain actively engaged in opposing any tariffs that might be levied against toys imported from China.

“With an announcement of the products to be hit by tariffs possible by the end of this week, the Association is taking steps to ensure our industry’s voice is heard by the White House and United States Trade Representative (USTR) as they finalize their decisions,” said Ed Desmond, executive vice president of external affairs at The Toy Association. “We are also discussing with the FGAC possible next steps once the tariff list is made public.”

Association staff members are contacting congressional offices, activating an industry-wide grassroots network, and are fully engaged with an anti-tariff coalition of more than 50 associations and corporate members.

Toy Association members are encouraged to get involved in the grassroots efforts today by sending a letter to their legislators urging them to dissuade the president from placing tariffs on toys. A “call to action” email was sent to members earlier today with a link to the grassroots letter.

Members who would like to be a part of the weekly FGAC call regarding the tariff issue are invited to contact Samantha Slosberg to be added to the FGAC list for call notices and updates.
