EPA Announces Peer Review of Draft Risk Evaluation for Pigment Violet 29

November 30, 2018 | The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to hold a public meeting and peer review in early 2019 to address the draft risk evaluation for Pigment Violet 29 (PV29), a process required by the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).  The peer review, taking place January 29 to February 1, will be performed by the EPA’s Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC), a new Federal Advisory Committee required under TSCA.

The meeting, announced in the Federal Register, will include a general TSCA orientation and provide the Committee with information and advice on which to base its recommendations to EPA on chemicals including PV29 regulated under TSCA. (The Toy Association’s Alan Kaufman is a member of the Committee.)

Prior to the January 29 meeting, the EPA will host a two-hour preparatory virtual meeting (via teleconference and webcast) on January 8, from approximately 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern) for Committee members and the public to comment on the scope and clarity of the draft charge questions to be used for the peer review. Registration is required for the public to participate during the preparatory virtual meeting.

The draft risk evaluation and other supporting documents are available online for public comment until January 14. Comments on the scope and clarity of the draft charge questions to be considered during the virtual preparatory meeting should be submitted by January 7.

Toy Association members with questions on this topic may contact Alan Kaufman, senior vice president of technical affairs.
