February 18, 2018 | The NPD Group announced the winners of its U.S. Toy Industry Awards, which were shared with the recipients at the 115th North American International Toy Fair. The awards were given to the manufacturers of the top-selling property and toy of 2017 in the United States, as well as the top-selling toys by super-category, according to NPD’s Retail Tracking Service.

L.O.L. Surprise! Doll Assortment by MGA Entertainment won NPD’s Top Selling Toy of the Year award. Nerf by Hasbro won Top Property of the Year. NPD also awarded top-selling toys in each of the 11 super-categories it tracks.

“The world today is evolving rapidly, and there are a number of ways the toy industry is demonstrating how it is keeping with the pace,” said Joanne Hageman, NPD’s president of entertainment, in a press release. “These awards recognize achievements and unique successes in a fast-paced and increasingly competitive environment. Amidst the quickly moving trends, the industry is winning with both innovative products marrying toys with technology, and evergreen toys standing the test of time. We congratulate all of this year’s award winners, and wish them continued success in the year ahead.”

NPD’s current estimate is that the Retail Tracking Service represents approximately 80 percent of the U.S. retail market for toys. Projected to 100 percent of the market, the U.S. toy industry is estimated at about $27 billion.
