REMINDER: Members Asked to Review USTR Tariff List for Categories that May Impact Business

April 9, 2018 | The Toy Association is reminding members to immediately review the Proposed Tariff List (p. 14) issued by the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) last week and notify Association staff if they are importing any items from China that appear on the list by close of business on Wednesday, April 11.

Items such as injection molds, certain batteries, molding presses, and machine tools are included on the list. While toy manufacturers may not import some of these categories directly, their subcontractors may do so, indirectly impacting business (i.e.: if a company purchases stampings produced from one of the affected grades of steel).

Companies should contact their customs broker if they are unsure of which HTS Codes to apply to imports.

Based on the information received from members, The Toy Association will determine how to best advocate to USTR moving forward.

Contact Samantha Slosberg, assistant manager of external affairs, with a list of items or with any questions on this matter.

With the potential threat of an additional $100 billion in tariffs announced on April 5 by the White House, this issue continues to develop. Members will be kept apprised of updates as soon as they are available.
