Toy Association Spreads Toy Safety Awareness at “Biggest Family Shower” in LA

August 8, 2017 | The Toy Association spread awareness about toy and play safety at Big City Moms’ “Biggest Family Shower Ever,” an event that attracted 1,800 new and expectant parents to the California Market Center in Los Angeles on Saturday, August 5.

At the event, which showcased more than 75 companies and their products, services, and brands, The Toy Association hosted a booth with information about PlaySafe.org – the toy industry’s free online resource for families offering advice on toy safety.

Joan Lawrence, The Toy Association’s “Toy Safety Mom” and senior vice president of standards and regulatory affairs, also spoke on a panel with other child and baby care experts, providing the at-capacity audience with tips for keeping their children safe at play.

Hundreds of families stopped by The Toy Association’s booth to learn about safe play; browse PlaySafe.org on the provided iPads; enter one of several toy raffles; and speak with Lawrence, who gave them advice for choosing age-appropriate toys, stressed the importance of following age labels on toy packaging, and offered other safety tips for new parents.

“We were thrilled to meet with so many expectant mothers, new parents, and their families to discuss the importance of toy and play safety,” says Lawrence. “As a mom and aunt, I understand how hard it is to sift through all of the information and advice out there for families. Our goal is to let parents know that PlaySafe.org is a one-stop resource with everything they need to know to make sure that their kids are playing safely!”
