Ontario’s Stuffed Articles Regulation to Be Revoked on July 1, 2019

December 12, 2018 | The Toy Association has learned that the date of revocation for the Upholstered and Stuffed Articles regulation (Ontario Regulation 218/01) in Ontario, Canada has been finalized as July 1, 2019.

Initial implementation of the modernized rules was targeted for July 1, 2018 but was delayed in April. The Ontario government recently elected to remove the burdens the regulation placed on the toy industry by revoking it in its entirety.

Members are reminded that until the revocation date, the regulation remains in effect and  manufacturers and retailers must comply with its current requirements for registration and labeling. In addition, similar requirements in Manitoba and Quebec remain in force, as do the stuffing material cleanliness requirements of the Toys Regulations under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.

Questions may be directed to The Toy Association’s Alan Kaufman, senior vice president of technical affairs.
