The following article is based on an announcement issued by Mojo Nation on July 8, 2020.

play-creators-awardsJuly 9, 2020 | Mojo Nation unveiled the finalists for its second annual Play Creators Awards, which celebrate the achievements of the toy and game designer community, including R&D teams, freelance inventors, and design agencies.

The award categories range from Toy Designer of the Year and Game Designer of the Year to Play Innovator of the Year, Rising Star, and more. Finalists were nominated by design community peers and judged strictly based on design criteria, not sales. They were then determined by the number of votes received per nominee.

Panels of expert judges, comprised of R&D execs, independent inventors, and representatives from design agencies and invention studios, will assess the finalists in each category in a series of virtual roundtables before selecting the winners, which will be announced by Mojo Nation on September 11.

“We’re delighted with the response to this year’s Play Creators Awards,” said Billy Langsworthy, co-founder of Mojo Nation. “The expansive and eclectic lineup of inventors and products nominated is testament to the talent this community boasts.”

A shortlist was not announced for this year’s Design Icon Award, which celebrates an iconic figure that has helped shape the industry, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of toy and game design. The Design Icon for 2020 will be revealed on September 11.
