Amazon’s Toy Safety Requirements to be Detailed in May 27 Webinar for Toy Association Members
May 4, 2021 | Toy Association manufacturer and licensor members are urged to attend an upcoming webinar that will provide them with an overview of Amazon’s U.S. product safety requirements, focusing on enhanced controls that proactively require sellers to provide safety documentation for the toys they are applying to sell on Amazon.
Taking place Thursday, May 27 at 2 p.m. (Eastern), “Understanding Amazon’s Toy Safety Requirements” will discuss Amazon’s distinct business channels (Fulfillment by Amazon, Retail, and Marketplace Fulfillment Network) and how those apply to toy companies, as well as Amazon’s improved processes to ensure toys sold on Amazon, whether through retail vendors or third-party sellers, adhere to applicable U.S. toy safety laws and regulations. Specifically, the webinar will review toy seller requirements, including requirements that they:
- provide a children’s product certificate (CPC) for the toys they are applying to sell;
- provide test reports from a CPSC-accredited testing laboratory confirming each product was tested to ASTM F963-17, as well as applicable CPSIA requirements; and
- verify that details on the product page align with information provided in the compliance documentation.
“Safety is a top priority at Amazon and we work hard to build a great shopping experience for our customers so they can shop with confidence on Amazon,” said Anne Carrihill, Director and Category Leader for Toys & Games at Amazon. “Over the past year, we’ve invested heavily to make our systems and processes even better and this is just the latest example. We look forward to continuing to work with toy manufacturers and trade associations like the Toy Association, to listen, lead, and innovate on behalf of customers.”
The one-hour webinar will be presented by Amazon’s Mark Fellin, Head of Product Trust and Regulatory Compliance, Worldwide, and moderated by The Toy Association’s Ed Desmond, Executive Vice President of External Affairs. It will include a review of common issues and explain the appeals process should the seller have any issues.
“Amazon’s testing and certification requirements for all children’s toys are a welcome development consistent with the toy and play community's commitment to keeping children safe when enjoying our great products," said Steve Pasierb, president & CEO of The Toy Association. “Amazon is an important customer to myriad toy companies, a part of everyday life for countless American families, and a valued retail member of The Toy Association. These additional steps are laudable and will help ensure the safety and compliance of toys sold on their stores. I urge all Toy Association manufacturing members to participate in the May 27 webinar to learn more from Amazon representatives about these steps forward."
This session is open to Toy Association manufacturer and licensor members only; it is specifically recommended for those involved in product safety and quality control, as well as individuals who routinely interact with the Amazon compliance team.
