Ports of LA and Long Beach Move to 24/7 Operations Ahead of Holidays

October 14, 2021 | Following a meeting between the president and leaders from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, the Biden administration announced a rollout of new initiatives to address the ongoing supply chain disruptions plaguing U.S. businesses.

As part of these initiatives, the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach will move to 24/7 operations in hopes of alleviating some of the ongoing congestion and delays at the nation’s biggest shipping points of entry.

“The significance of today's announcement is the commitment from industry leaders responsible for moving goods on behalf of American consumers and businesses to open up the capacity needed to deliver,” said Gene Seroka, executive director of the Port of Los Angeles in a statement. “It’s a call to action for others to follow.”

The Toy Association continues to work closely with Seroka and the Port of Los Angeles to provide its members with the latest port updates while also advocating for additional supply chain solutions. The Toy Association also continues to be out front in the media reminding shoppers to get their toy shopping done early because the shipping crisis is not fading anytime soon.

“The announcement of 24/7 operations at key entry ports is a welcome step forward among many that will be needed to get out of this supply chain disaster and prevent a repeat future crisis,” said Steve Pasierb, president & CEO of The Toy Association. “We are blessed to have built a positive, productive collaboration with Gene Seroka and all the tireless, hard-working individuals at the Port of LA.  Across all aspects of the supply chain from factories to exorbitant shipping rates to resolving dire shortages in the domestic trucking industry, we must continue to press for actionable solutions for our member companies.”

Toy professionals are invited to access the latest in a series of member-only webinars presented by Seroka, that provided those who work in the logistics, transportation, and/or supply chain areas of their companies with critical information needed to plan for the holiday season and beyond.
