“Shades of Us” Webinar & Panel Discussion to Explore Race, Identity & the American Family

June 8, 2021 | Children today are growing up in an increasingly multicultural world characterized by cultural fusion and diversity – as well as racial stereotypes and discrimination.

To help toy and play professionals understand how perceptions of culture and identity impact the opinions, behaviors, and values of American families, The Toy Association will host a members-only webinar on Thursday, June 24 titled “Shades of Us: A Study of Race, Identity & the American Family”.

Taking place from 2 to 3:30 p.m., the session will uncover the results of Nickelodeon’s “Shades of Us” study, a two-year exploration on how race and ethnicity are impacting today’s kids, and answer important questions, including:

  • How do race and ethnicity inform a child’s identity?
  • When and how do parents address race with their children?
  • What can we do to better reflect, respect, and protect the most diverse generation in U.S. history?

A panel discussion will follow to inspire participants to be intentionally inclusive in their company culture, with their partners, through their products, and throughout the industry. The conversation will emphasize how crucial it is for the industry to create content and products that reflect, celebrate, and elevate the diversity of all audiences, while highlighting D&I efforts at ViacomCBS Consumer Products that foster an ongoing dialogue within the toy community.
