California Extends Comment Period for Chemicals Assessment in Children’s Products
November 21, 2024 | The state of California’s Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has extended the public comment period to assess certain chemicals in children’s products. This feedback will guide the potential designation of these chemicals as Priority Products under the Safer Consumer Products (SCP) framework. The new deadline is January 2.
The 30-day extension is in response to a letter submitted by The Toy Association, jointly signed by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association and American Apparel & Footwear Association. The letter requested more time to provide comprehensive information than the original six-week comment period would allow.
The Toy Association is developing comments on behalf of the industry and will submit them to the California DTSC by the new January 2 public comment deadline. Toy companies that wish to have their input incorporated are encouraged to send their feedback to The Toy Association’s Charlotte Hickcox, director of state government affairs.
The Toy Association will continue to keep the industry apprised of ongoing developments on this topic. Members may reach out to The Toy Association's Charlotte Hickcox with any questions.
