Recipe for Playful Learning!
Post office play is a great way for kids to practice learning their ABC’s and 123’s while writing and addressing their letters.
Step 1: Make a Post Office sign and affix to the top of the poster board.
Step 2: For “mailboxes”, choose different sized envelopes and “address” them on the back side. Using double stick tape or glue, attach the envelopes with the back side facing out so you can put mail in the envelope pocket.
Suggestion: You can stick your mailboxes all on the poster board in one central location OR you can tape them to individual bedroom doors so that the mail will be personally delivered to the recipient.
Step 3: Ask your child who they want to write to and set aside time to help them write their letters.
Age Modifications:
- Choose blank paper or lined paper for writing
- Begin writing some of the phrases and have your child fill in the blanks i.e., “Dear______”
- Share a list of letter writing words i.e. Dear, To, From, Love, Address and/or phrases i.e. “How are you?”, “I miss you!”, “Be my friend!” to help your child create their message.
Step 4: Use smaller pieces of paper to make your own stamps. Once the stamps are designed, cut them out ready to be stuck on to the envelopes with a glue stick.
