Save the Date for TIA Webinar: “Connected Toys”

July 29, 2016 | Toy companies that are invested in or intend to create connected toys and child-directed mobile apps are encouraged to attend the Toy Industry Association’s (TIA) upcoming webinar, “Connected Toys: Ensuring Data Collection and Privacy Compliance,” taking place on Thursday, August 18 at 2 p.m. (Eastern).

Presented by Dona Fraser, VP of the Privacy Certified Program at the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) and moderated by TIA’s Ed Desmond, EVP of external affairs, the hour-long session will provide information and guidance on complying with privacy and data collection regulations impacting the global industry.

“As we know, there is a balance that must be struck between allowing children to fully immerse themselves in the magic and wonder of e-connected toys and apps, while also maintaining their privacy and safety,” said Desmond. “As electronics, technology and connected toys continue to gain momentum in the toy industry, this educational session will provide toy designers, developers and company executives with valuable information about the factors to consider when connected toys and mobile apps collect and retain personal information.”

The educational session will explain how to comply with applicable privacy regulations, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the U.S.; the E.U.’s Global Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); as well as other applicable laws in Canada, the Asia-Pacific region and South America. This session will also discuss how to develop strategies to allow children to engage with connected toys and apps by obtaining parental consent.

Registration for the webinar is free for TIA members and $49 for non-members. A recording of the webinar will be made available on the TIA website in the weeks following the session for those who are unable to participate live.
