October 13, 2016 | Toy Industry Association (TIA) President & CEO Steve Pasierb traveled to Washington, DC on Thursday, October 13 to meet with officials from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

During his discussions with CPSC Chairman Elliot Kaye, Commissioners Joe Mohorovic and Marietta Robinson, and senior staff for Commissioner Ann Marie Buerkle, Pasierb highlighted various toy industry topics and discussed the potential for further strengthening TIA’s partnership with the agency.

Pasierb expressed the toy community’s appreciation for the CPSC’s recent draft rule exempting four plastics from phthalates testing, as part of the agency’s mandate to reduce third-party testing costs for toy and children’s product manufacturers. TIA and its members have worked continually with agency staff and lawmakers over the past few years to provide comments, data, testimony, and more to encourage the reduction or elimination of unnecessary testing and testing costs.

Additionally, Pasierb and Kaye explored the possibility of new collaborative public education efforts between TIA and the CPSC to help parents and other consumers keep children safe while they play.

“CPSC plays a vital role in our nation, while TIA remains steadfast in our commitment to maintaining an active, open dialogue and collaborative spirit in our shared goal of quality and safety,” stated Pasierb. “These were positive meetings that allowed us to discuss our respective views and explore approaches for improving toy safety awareness. I am dedicated to a positive and productive working relationship with the CPSC and all government officials.”
