The Toy Association’s Alan Kaufman Joins ASTM International Board of Directors

ASTM International has announced that Alan Kaufman, senior vice president of technical affairs at The Toy Association, will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors.

ASTM’s board of directors is made up of 25 leaders from an array of companies, associations, and government bodies worldwide.

Kaufman leads The Toy Association’s work related to the environment, supply chain, and factory processes, and is a key contributor to the Association’s work on toy safety and standards development, among related matters. His expertise will support ASTM International in its mission to “positively impact public health and safety, consumer confidence, and overall quality of life by integrating consensus standards developed with an international membership of volunteer technical experts.”

Before joining The Toy Association in 2011, Kaufman was vice president for global product safety and regulatory affairs at Toys”R”Us. As a member of ASTM International since 2011, Kaufman has participated in committees on consumer products (F15), sustainability (E60), and declarable substances in materials (F40). He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

In addition to his involvement with ASTM International, Kaufman is part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals, and was a past president of the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization. He is certified as a quality engineer by the American Society for Quality.
