Webinar Offers Tips for Upcoming California Consumer Privacy Act

california-consumer-privacy-actOctober 14, 2019 | The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) takes effect on January 1, 2020. Start preparing for the changes that may come with The Toy Association’s upcoming webinar, "CCPA Basics: What Toy Companies Need to Know." Registration is now open.

Taking place November 5, from 2 to 3 p.m. (Eastern), the free members-only webinar is designed to guide attendees through the potential regulatory challenges and litigation risks presented by the CCPA. While the California Attorney General has yet to issue draft regulations that define how the CCPA will apply, regulations should be available in late October, and businesses need to prepare now. Practical tips on compliance, risk avoidance, and risk management will be shared.

Participants will learn:

  • CCPA definitions and requirements
  • What constitutes a "sale"
  • Obligations to offer a "Do Not Sell" button
  • Consumer rights under the CCPA
  • Recent amendments to the CCPA
  • Implications for HR data
  • Conflicts/inconsistencies with other laws
  • How a new privacy ballot measure could potentially expand the privacy landscape

The webinar will be presented by Sheila A. Millar, partner at Keller and Heckman LLP, where she represents businesses and trade associations on a variety of public policy and regulatory issues. Millar recently represented The Toy Association at a Federal Trade Commission workshop on the Children’s Online Privacy Act (COPPA). The Toy Association’s executive vice president of external affairs, Ed Desmond, will moderate.

All Toy Association members are invited to attend. The webinar is specifically recommended for those responsible for legal and regulatory compliance, marketing, and sales.
