Toy Association Partners with JPMA for ‘Baby Safety Month’ This September

September 7, 2021 | The Toy Association has announced a partnership with the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) to raise awareness about safety considerations unique to babies and young children this September during “Baby Safety Month.”

Established by JPMA nearly four decades ago, Baby Safety Month aims to help parents safely navigate early childhood by equipping them with resources to make their journey easier. For this year’s Baby Safety Month, JPMA will educate families on a different area of child safety each week, including general safety, bathroom safety, car seat safety, as well as safe play time in bouncers, swings, and activity centers.

In conjunction with these efforts, The Toy Association will be sharing safety tips from JPMA as well as its own PlaySafe.org tips to help parents keep kids safe as they play.

“Safety is the No. 1 priority for The Toy Association and our members − and providing families with the tools they need to ensure safe play starts early,” said Joan Lawrence, senior vice president of standards and regulatory affairs at The Toy Association. "That’s why we’re proud to once again partner with JPMA to educate families throughout Baby Safety Month. By working together, we can help guarantee every play time is a fun and safe time.”

The Toy Association’s toy safety tips for parents of babies and younger children include following the age grading on toy packaging, since toys labeled 3+ may have small parts that can pose choking hazards; looking out for wear-and-tear and recalls on second-hand toys; and discarding all packaging from a toy before giving it to a baby or small child.

Throughout the month, The Toy Association will be highlighting safety tips on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and www.PlaySafe.org. Toy companies, retailers, and other industry professionals are encouraged to share these tips with social media fans and followers to help educate families on safe play, using our hashtag #playsafe.
