Deadline Approaching for New Jersey Recycling Requirement (July 18)

July 5, 2022 | The Toy Association is reminding companies that do business in New Jersey that they have until July 18 to complete a newly required form for post-consumer recycled content in certain containers and packaging products.

Under New Jersey’s “Recycled Content Law”, which took effect in January, manufacturers of products covered under the law (including toys) are now required to annually register with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and pay a $1,000 registration fee to be billed after the registration is received by the NJDEP. The law is intended to stimulate recycling markets by requiring manufacturers to meet minimum recycled content standards for covered products sold or offered for sale in New Jersey. Manufacturers will be required to renew their registration annually.

Companies may refer to the NJDEP 's Instructions for the Recycled Content Registration Form  for more detailed information.

Toy Association members with questions about this law may contact Owen Caine, vice president of government affairs at The Toy Association.
