Schedule a Virtual Meeting with FIT’s Next Class of Toy Designers
January 10, 2022 | Toy Association members looking to connect with talented toy designers are invited to participate in the FIT Toy Design Department’s Summer 2022 Internship Program.
Working in collaboration with The Toy Association and its members, the internship program introduces the work of the next class of toy designers to companies across the industry.
Portfolio reviews will be open to Toy Association member companies by virtual appointment only, from Friday, February 18 through Tuesday, February 22. Based off discussions with toymakers, department head Judy Ellis and her team will work to match the interests and abilities of students with the specific needs of each company. Company representatives will have the opportunity to review candidates’ portfolios and talk with the appropriate students before final assignments are made.
Students can provide the following services to companies:
- rendering presentation boards and exploded views for costing
- 3-D modeling, sculpting, breadboards
- conceptualizing ideas

“By working with The Toy Association and industry leaders, the FIT Toy Department is well-positioned to provide a comprehensive curriculum framing a successful summer program,” said Ellis. “Since 2020 our internship program has been conducted remotely as well as through hybrid models, which has only further highlighted the dedication and adaptability of our participating students.”
The program is a full-time position of eight to 10 weeks beginning Monday, June 6 and ending on or after Friday, August 12. Many participating companies have gone on to hire their interns upon graduation. Past participating companies have included: Commonwealth, Fisher-Price (Mattel), Faber-Castell/Creativity for Kids, Gund (Spin Master), Hasbro, K’NEX, Manhattan Toy, Mattel, MEGA Brands (Mattel), Nickelodeon, KIDdesigns, Little Tikes (MGA Entertainment), Alex Brands, and Jazwares/Wicked Cool Toys among others.
