This week, The Toy Association’s Kathrin Belliveau, chief policy officer, and Maria Sierra, vice president of government affairs, will meet with influential congressional staff from the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate to discuss major policy areas impacting the toy industry, including tariffs and extended producer responsibility (EPR) laws.

The meetings are part of The Toy Association’s ongoing engagement with federal policymakers to share industry perspectives on current and proposed regulations. Discussion topics include the impact of current and potential tariff increases and the patchwork of state-level EPR laws governing packaging and materials management. The Association is advocating for a harmonized EPR solution at the federal level that achieves environmental goals while providing clarity and consistency for companies operating nationwide.

Belliveau and Sierra will also emphasize the toy industry’s unique role in supporting the growth and education of American children.

“Toys are essential tools that encourage creativity, problem-solving, social development, and many other skills through play,” Belliveau said. “Our priority is making policymakers understand both the economic and developmental importance of our industry. Smart, consistent policy helps keep play accessible for families while supporting the thousands of businesses — large and small — that bring joy and learning to children every day.”
