Toy Association’s Inaugural IP Committee Meeting to Discuss Dangers of Counterfeit Toys & Potential Solutions

October 14, 2019 | The Toy Association will host an Intellectual Property Committee meeting in Los Angeles, CA December 3 to 4, providing Toy Association members of the IP Committee with the opportunity to speak directly with marketplaces about their approaches to removing unsafe, knockoff, and counterfeit toys from e-commerce platforms.

On day one of the meeting, representatives of Amazon, Alibaba, and Walmart will speak to current and future steps they have planned to improve the targeting and removal of rogue sellers and unsafe / counterfeit toys flowing into the country. Toy Association members will have the opportunity to discuss their concerns and potential solutions, including those outlined in The Toy Association white paper, "The Real Threat of Fake Toys."

On day two, Toy Association brands will regroup to recap day one and Meaghan Kent of Venable LLP will chart priorities for updating the white paper based on the previous day’s discussions. Toy Association staff will also provide legislative and regulatory updates and discuss next steps for the Intellectual Property Committee in 2020.

"The Toy Association, our 1,100+ member companies, and the broader U.S. toy community continue to demand the elimination of counterfeit product that fail to meet our country’s strict safety standards, as we work with partners in government and the retail community to find workable solutions to this problem," said Ed Desmond, executive vice president of external affairs at The Toy Association. "We look forward to furthering our dialogue with key online marketplaces and making progress on this critical issue, which is putting kids everywhere at risk and undermining the legitimate toy community’s efforts to safeguard children at play."
