FCC Steps Up Enforcement on Equipment & Labeling Rules

fccMarch 5, 2021 | The Toy Association is advising members that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has markedly stepped up its enforcement efforts. The FCC issued several citations and orders to companies that failed to comply with the agency’s equipment authorization and labeling rules at the end of 2020.

This is a reminder that members designing, manufacturing, or marketing electronic devices must ensure they comply with the FCC’s equipment authorization rules before importing, marketing, or selling their devices. These requirements apply to both intentional RF radiators (e.g. radio control devices, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.) and unintentional radiators, which includes almost all devices containing integrated circuits. Fines for noncompliance can be substantial, and the agency can also order a recall of products in the marketplace and impose onerous compliance programs.

Questions regarding these new FCC enforcement efforts can be direct to Alan Kaufman, senior vice president of technical affairs at The Toy Association.
