Congress Passes Bill to Block National Rail Strike

December 1, 2022 | Under the Railroad Labor Act, Congress has passed legislation to avoid a nationwide rail strike, sending the bill to President Biden’s desk for final signature.

H.J.Res.100, which was introduced by the House Transportation Infrastructure Committee and overwhelmingly passed on November 30, was approved by the Senate today in a 80-15 vote. The bill states that there is a “national interest, including the national health and defense, that essential transportation services be maintained.”

President Biden is expected to sign the bill into law, previously stating that he will sign legislation to prevent a rail shutdown before the Dec. 9 deadline.
