The Toy Association’s Al Kaufman Gives U.S. Toy Safety Update for German Toy Association

al-kaufman-toy-associationOctober 26, 2021 | The Toy Association’s Alan Kaufman, senior vice president of technical affairs, gave a presentation on key U.S. regulatory issues and standards during the German Toy Association’s (DVSI) “SafetyDay,” held October 14. The one-day virtual event gathered toy safety professionals from around the world to exchange ideas related to play safety.

The U.S. update provided by Kaufman included details on the “changing of the guard” at the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Lautenberg Amendments to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), as well as anticipated changes to ASTM F963 and state laws regarding data & consumer privacy and chemical reporting.

“SafetyDay presented an excellent opportunity to engage with our product safety colleagues around the globe to discuss the changes in U.S. regulations that they need to be aware of when conducting business in the U.S. and ensure that toys and playthings everywhere continue to adhere to our strict safety standards,” said Kaufman. “We are grateful to DVSI for planning this day and the opportunity to share relevant information with their audience.”

The Toy Association will also launch its first-ever Toy Safety Awareness Month on November 1, which will spotlight toy safety tips for parents and accurate information regarding the industry’s dedication to product safety. Members of the industry are encouraged to be on the lookout for #ToySafetyAwarenessMonth and #PlaySafe posts on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter, and to share them with their followers.
