Jan. 31 Marks Vermont & Washington State Chemical Reporting Deadlines for Children’s Products

31-date-circled-on-calendarJanuary 9, 2023 | The Toy Association is reminding companies that do business in the states of Vermont and Washington that the next deadline for reporting chemicals in children's products is January 31.

Vermont
The annual reporting deadline for children’s products containing any of the state’s 86 chemicals of concern to children (CHCC) has changed from August 31 to January 31, beginning last year. Members are advised to submit reports at their earliest convenience to avoid any issues that may delay the submission process. This guidance is especially important for those reporting from outside the U.S. The upcoming deadline affects any children’s products that were or will be sold or offered for sale in Vermont between August 1, 2022 and January 31, 2023.

To ensure smooth reporting, members are encouraged to review the materials (reporting home page, user manual, and tutorial video) and update their profile’s contact information, if necessary. Reporting receipts are sent by email; newly submitted reports will also appear on a company’s account dashboard within a few hours.

Washington State
Under Washington State’s “Children’s Safe Products Act” (CSPA), manufacturers are required to report by January 31, 2023 if their children's products contain any chemicals included on the list of Chemicals of High Concern to Children. The list contains more than 85 chemicals that are required to be reported on an annual basis. The upcoming deadline affects any children’s products that were sold or offered for sale in Washington between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022.

Chemicals should be reported through the Interstate Chemical Clearinghouse’s IC2 High Priority Chemical Data System (HPCDS). For additional assistance, members can review the department’s resources: reporting webpage, user guide, and frequently asked questions. For assistance using the HPCDS system, contact Interstate Chemicals Clearinghouse (IC2) at hpcds@theic2.org or 617-367-8558. Members should allow for additional time to complete the form if not yet familiar with the system.

Members may reach out to The Toy Association’s Jennifer Gibbons, senior vice president of government affairs, with any questions.
